HEALTH IS DIGNITY
Poverty’s harsh effects on health can start in the womb
and continue onward if proper healthcare is not provided.
We partner with many volunteer American doctors as well as local Kenyan doctors to provide the best healthcare possible at Heshima. Usually our families have either never been to a doctor due to lack of funds, or they have seen a doctor but did not understand what follow-up care was needed. Unfortunately, health issues that start small, if untreated, can be life-threatening.
Not only do we provide healthcare for the children but also for their mamas. Some of the problems these families face are ringworm, malaria, typhoid, epilepsy, lung infections, HIV, and problems from poor diet and hygiene. In the last 12 years, we have also provided the money and follow-up care for 7 kids to undergo orthopedic surgery. They are now learning to walk with the help of our therapists. It is very exciting to be part of these miracles that otherwise would have never happened.
