From students to employees

Heshima hires graduating students

At Heshima Children’s Center, we celebrate stories of growth, resilience, and transformation. Many of our students begin their journey with us by receiving support through education, therapy services, and medical care designed to help them thrive and reach their full potential.

Over time, these same students grow in confidence, develop valuable skills, and discover their unique strengths. For some, this journey comes full circle as they transition from being students to becoming valued paid employees within our community.

Their stories are a powerful testimony of what is possible when children are given consistent support, encouragement, and opportunity. From the classroom to the workplace, these individuals now serve as role models, inspiring other students and families with the message that growth has no limits.

At Heshima Children’s Center, we believe in creating pathways, not just providing services. Seeing our former students step into meaningful employment reminds us that true impact is measured in lives changed, confidence restored, and futures rebuilt.

These testimonies reflect the heart of our mission: empowering every child with dignity, purpose, and the opportunity to shine.

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing” 1 Thessalonians 5:11

Meet Victor

In 2008, Victor joined the Heshima family as a student at only 13 years old. In 2015, he was employed with Heshima as a gardener. He also works with Heshima Construction. With money he has saved, he has been able to purchase land and in the future, he will have money saved up to build his own house.

Meet Celestine

At 6 years old, Celestine joined the Heshima family as a student in 2008. She received physical and occupational therapy. In February of 2021, she became a full time employee in our cleaning department. She is now training other future employees on the dos and don’t of cleaning our campus.

Meet Macharia (yellow hat)

In 2008, at just 4 years old, Macharia and his mother started their journey at Heshima. While Macharia was receiving therapies and educational services, his mom began working in Dignity Designs. Macharia has now been an employee for the past 4 years, working the grounds as well as working in the water distribution center. His mom continues to work with Heshima as our lead social worker.

Meet Ann

In 2011, Ann joined Heshima as an 11 year old girl. Despite her physical disabilities, Ann has been an inspiration to those around her. In 2023, Ann became employed as a Teacher Assistant in one of our youngest classes. To this day, she is able to create relationships with the students and inspire them to do their best!

Meet Tresiah

At 13 years old, Tresiah came to Heshima as a 13 year old student. In April of 2022, she became employed in Dignity Designs where she makes jewelry. As you can see, Tresiah has a contagious smile and is always eager to help others.
